DOUG KLASSEN

SENIOR PASTOR

Doug has a passion for effective preaching and leading the church to be participate in God’s Mission in the world.

Doug was born in Vineland, Ontario. He married Rose Retzlaff during his time studying at Canadian Mennonite Bible College in Winnipeg. Doug and Rose took their first pastoral assignment in St. Catharines, ON. From there they moved to Winnipeg to serve a local church and work in the area of Young Adult Ministries with the Manitoba conference. In 1998, the family answered a call to come to Foothills, where Doug has been the Senior Pastor since the year 2000. The Klassen family lives in N.W. Calgary, not far from the church and not far from the ranch where they go to spend time with their horses.

CHAD MILLER

ASSOCIATE PASTOR

Chad gives leadership to the Youth Ministry at Foothills as well as serving in a wide array of other areas.

Chad, his wife June and their two children Mackenzie and Hudson, moved from Ohio to join our congregation in March 2009. They are excited to be a part of the Foothills Community. Previously Chad had served as a Youth Pastor and a Pastor of worship arts at Hartville Mennonite Church in Ohio.

Hello and Welcome to our Community!

I am here to help new people connect with others and find areas and activities of interest for them to participate in. Also if you have any needs or  concerns, suggestions that you would like to share, please talk with me.
There is a frequently asked questions and answers section just below to give you information on what to expect when you visit Foothills Mennonite Church.
I am also here to liaison with the conference and  our surrounding community.

WHAT TO EXPECT

We’re so glad you’ve decided to visit us!

Sometimes it’s hard to know what to expect when going to a new church. Here are some simple things about Foothills Mennonite Church that might help.

How do I get there?

Our address is 2115 Urbana Rd NW, Calgary, AB T2N 4B9

Where should I park?

We have a parking lot and there is plenty of parking on the streets.

Be aware that some street parking is limited to one hour.  Look for the signs!

What should I wear?

At Foothills there is a wide variety to how people dress, most people dress in a causal style, from jeans and golf shirt to the occasional suit and tie.

Please come dressed in whatever you are comfortable with.

What are the service times?

We gather for worship on Sunday morning’s  at 10:30am.  You are welcome to join us. When you enter the glass doors you will find yourself in our lobby that might be bustling with adults and children visiting with each other. To your right is the entrance to our worship space.  As you approach it, you will meet some nice people handing out bulletins that contain the order of service and also community announcements. There is no assigned seating so find yourself a spot you will be comfortable in.  Song books and Bibles are in the pews.

What about Sunday School?

The Sunday School program runs from mid September to early June.  It begins at 9:30am and ends before church starts at 10:30am.

There is also a coffee time in the gym/fellowship hall at 9:30am (downstairs), it a good time to meet new people and old friends.

Classes meet in the following locations:

  • The Preschool to grade Six classes meet upstairs (follow the signs)
  • Jr. High and High School classes meet in the office wing just off the main foyer (the hallway starts by the coat racks)
  • Adult class meets in the fireside room just off the gym in the basement (go down the stairs from the foyer)
What is the Worship Style?

At Foothills we value an intergenerational approach to worship. We try to involve our children and youth in our worship service as much as possible. Almost every Sunday we have a Children’s Feature.  Our musical styles range from folk/contemporary to hymns, new and old. Preaching is also a central part of our worship service with messages to encourage and challenge. We celebrate Communion once a month.  Most of our worship services are about an hour in length.

What about Community?

Building a sense of connectedness and community is a priority for us at Foothills as we seek to be an active part of God’s work in the world. There are a wide range of people who have an affiliation with our church, sometimes it takes a few Sundays to meet new people. Please introduce yourself if you are comfortable with that and we will try to meet you as well.  If you are interested in small groups, we have lots of them that range from Bible/Book Studies to walking groups, to service groups and more.  Charlotte would be happy to connect you to what interests you.
